Mindlessness.
Spacing Out.
Zoning Out.
Yes. That's right. Not Mindfulness, but Mindlessness.
We're encouraged to be mindful when eating. When we're breathing. While we're walking.
There's no doubt that Mindfulness is a powerful remedy that can be utilised to counteract aspects of depression and anxiety. And it can bring meaning to a life that feels numbly full of routine.
However. All around me, wherever I am, I see tired, grey, and worn out faces. The world we live in prioritises Busy and Active and Full-On. I regularly hear us all using Busy as a constant explanation for not managing to get to what we really want to get to.
So I'm not totally sure if becoming more Mindful is really a tonic for us. I think many of us are already totally focused on what we're involved with. Too focused.
Instead, a good dose of Zoning Out, or Spacing Out, or Mindlessness, may be the tonic many of us need to counteract the Busy that overruns our lives.
Why not include some Zoning Out this week? Why not do some cloud-watching? Why not just let our minds wander when Whimsy takes us? Why not just sit with the sun on our backs, and have a good old-fashioned day dream?
Mmmmm! I think I might just do that.
How about you?
