Day-Dreaming

Updated: Jan 2, 2020

Day-dreaming.

Do you?

I'm someone who slips into day-dreams pretty easily. (A bit too easily sometimes!) I love sliding out of the hum-drum, paralysingly relentless beat and drive that life can sometimes assume. Day-dreams give me a micro-second, or two, of space that's just somewhere else

.

There's a lot of emphasis on being mindful. A lot of emphasis on turning our energy onto being right where we are, where-ever that is. There's much to value in this principle since it's too easy to miss the beauty and joy of simple moments. So, mindfulness is an important skill to obtain.

However, there's also much to be said for zoning out. Day-dreaming. Or having mind-wandering moments, as this video suggests: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkE37ZVtXOk

And our children are also advantaged by gentle, unstructured space where their minds can wander. Both children and adults are equipped with minds which are wired for creativity.

Ironically, to release creativity, we all need to experience a void from time to time. Even in an uncomfortable way. Then, to remediate the discomfort of the void, our mind will work hard to shift us into creative productivity.

Et Voila! A creative solution will appear. At short notice.

But!

First must come the void. And the moment disengagement with anything.

First must come day-dreaming.

Do you?

Arohanui.
