Ruffled feathers.
Have you had a day that's left you feeling like your feathers are ruffled?
Sometimes, no matter which way we turn, Life just seems to rub us up the wrong way.
On those days, I love wisdom of this adage: The bird with the ruffled feathers must get out of the wind.
If we're able to, guiding ourselves towards a place of calm, away from the Winds of Life, will allow us time to centre ourselves again. Away from the Winds of Life, we can take a moment or two to preen our inner feathers, clear our mind from upsets and distractions, and restore ourselves to a stronger place of inner composure.
This conscious, intentional process of preening our feathers is called self-soothing.
Which self-soothing strategies do you follow?
It's such an individual process. Generally, self-soothing centres on our five senses: vision, hearing, touch, smell, taste.
Over the next few days, let's focus on learning a bit more about self-soothing and its importance. We'll also examine strategies from each of the five sources of soothing.
Let's become birds who are able to get ourselves out of the wind when our feathers get ruffled.
