Vulnerability.
Vulnerability as a source of strength.
Though this seems a contradiction, I believe it is a truth.
I see it as an antidote to the prevailing Kiwi/Aussie "Tough guy" image that is so prevalent. Both cultures have their own version of an "Aussie Battler": the person who Life has taken to hell, and back, in a handcart. These folk are truly resilient and are to be admired.
No question.
However, the outer details of their journeys send a false message to we who struggle daily with relentlessly tough stuff. In fact, rather than bringing encouragement, these iconic, cultural heroes can bring us despair.
No matter how we tough it out, some circumstances can never be 'toughed out'. If that's our model, then despair will result.
So, I suggest a new model of strength.
Strength through the acknowledgement of vulnerability.
My hero in the realm of Vulnerability is Brene Brown. I choose to listen to this message every few months.
Why not make a cuppa, plug your buds in and have a listen?
